Setup

Set a light barbell across your upper back as for a squat, feet hip-width, knees soft.

How to do it

  1. Breathe in and brace.
  2. Push your hips back and let your chest come forward, back flat.
  3. Stop when you feel a strong hamstring stretch, usually around horizontal or above.
  4. Drive your hips forward to stand tall.

Coaching cues

  • Hips back, not chest down.
  • Keep the bar over your midfoot.

Common mistakes

  • Rounding the lower back to go deeper.
  • Going too heavy too soon.

Safety

Start much lighter than your squat. This is a stretch-and-control lift, not a max lift.
